Cy Twombly, Coronation of Sesostris

The art movement I chose was abstract expressionism. The reason why I chose this movement because the painting that were able to show their full emotions. Some characteristics of abstract expressionism is that is able to express emotion in the paintings. The name of the movement is abstract expressionism, just like the name the paintings are expressing emotions in abstract art. I chose Cy Twombly because when he paints he is able to use his paints in a way where we can see what she was trying to express. Something interesting about him was his painting style. He paints with dripping paints in the canvas, which is something very interesting about his art works.

Some of the characteristics of my painting is that I used acrylic paints that where watered down so that they would be able to drip. The value in my painting is pretty diverse. There are no exact shapes but just colors to express a crown. The painting that Twombly painted was a crown for the Pharaoh Sesostris. My painting relates to the painting, because I use similar techniques to him and I am using Cleopatra as a inspiration. I am also using very limited colors which is something similar to his painting as well.

My idea when painting this was to express the colors of the crown that Cleopatra had. She is one of the most beautiful queens of Egypt and she is known for being beautiful, so when painting her crown I was expressing a symbol of beauty. When Twombly was painting his Painting it seems like he was showing the colors of the crown and the colors of what will happen. Something different from his painting and mine is that I am expressing beauty when he is expressing a coronation. The colors he used are more muted when mine are more vibrant. Over all his mood and tone are very different to mine.
